Workshop Introductions

The former iron foundry, established in 1955, has been transformed into a unique workshop where products are created using a variety of traditional craft techniques. It could well be described as a small paradise for craft enthusiasts. The foundry and bronze casting traditions are displayed along with old patterns and tools. You can explore bronze casting more closely through demonstrations.

The introduction also includes stories about Raahe’s maritime history, including how the

porcelain ship dog became the popular Raahe Dog and why it sits on window sills.

The workshop ceiling is adorned with traditional Finnish himmeli ornaments, and the collection includes more than 150 different designs, ranging from traditional to modern models.

Glass artworks are produced using a variety of techniques, including Tiffany glass, glass fusing, mosaics, and sandblasting

Ceramic casting is used to create the porcelain Ship Dogs and Old Gentleman statues. Candles and a range of charming gifts and souvenirs are also handcrafted in the workshop with respect for traditional craftsmanship.

Duration: approximately 30 minutes

Price: 40€ per group (maximum 30 persons)

For larger groups, two consecutive presentations can be arranged for 65€

Groups may book a workshop presentation of Raahen Taitopaja on its own or combine it with a live demonstration of a chosen craft technique. Courses for small groups can also be arranged, with the duration tailored to the participants’ wishes.
