Glass Himmelis

Glass himmelis are a more modern version of the traditional himmeli. They combine a new material with a traditional crafting method to create a modern and stunning work.

Obtaining high-quality natural materials is not as easy as it once was. As a result, glass tubes have also made it easier for many people to become familiar with making himmelis.

In 2010, at the Finnish Craft and Design Fair in Tampere, my product “Lasitähtipallo” (Glass Star Sphere) won the New Product of the Year competition.

The glass tubes come from the Preciosa factory in the Czech Republic. They are high-quality, pre-cut tubes in lengths of 3 cm, 5 cm, and 6 cm. They are available in both straight and twisted designs, with the twisted style offering a bit more sparkle than the straight one. The tube type does not affect the construction of the himmeli. The glass tubes are durable enough to handle well even in the hands of a beginner.

When making glass himmelis, you can use thin beading thread, fishing line, or craft metal wire. If you are using thread, a beading needle or a collapsible large-eyed needle is used to guide it through. When working with fishing line or wire, no needle is required.

These glass himmeli kits contain the glass tubes and step-by-step instructions. Our larger kits also include a beading needle and thread.

In 2020, Raahen Taitopaja also exported glass himmeli DIY kits to Japan for sale.
