The Story of Raahen Taitopaja

Raahen Taitopaja offers experiences and activities in the unique atmosphere of an old foundry. The business was founded in 2002 in the former premises of Raahen Valu. The workshop specializes in craft production and experience services.

The workshop continues the foundry tradition by casting bronze into sand molds. The premises display foundry heritage, old casting patterns and tools, as well as unique bronze artworks cast by my father, Eino Tuomaala, along with functional objects, nameplates, bells, jewellery, coat hooks, etc.

The “Himmeli Sky” provides a versatile insight into himmelis. On display are over 150 different himmelis made of materials such as rye, sand ryegrass, and glass tubes. The collection features both traditional and modern designs.

In addition to these, the workshop produces glass works using different techniques and casts candles. Traditional porcelain ship dogs, known as Raahe-dogs, are made entirely in-house, starting with the casting of the dogs themselves.

In addition to exploring, you can also try your hand at making various craft products by taking part in our workshops and courses. They are organized upon request and tailored to meet our customers’ wishes.

Welcome to explore, create, and enjoy!
